Lecture by Gabriel Craig

Gabriel Craig is a metalsmith, writer, and craft activist. His performative use of craft engages diverse audiences in discussions about self-sufficiency, labor, consumption, and tradition. His studio work has been exhibited internationally and has been featured in numerous books and magazines. His critical writings have appeared in prominent craft publications, includingMetalsmith, American Craft, and Fiberarts. He has lectured throughout the country on his own artistic work, the history of decorative arts, and contemporary craft. He has carried out residencies at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft and Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Craig received a BFA in metals and jewelry from Western Michigan University and an MFA in jewelry and metalworking from Virginia Commonwealth University. He lives and works in Detroit with his fiancée and fellow metalsmith, Amy Weiks. His CCA lecture will include a discussion of mining and ethical material sourcing.
