For the second time Georges Rousse is to be the subject of a monographic exhibition at the Catherine Putman Gallery, where three years ago his preparatory drawings had been shown for the first time in a gallery.

Georges Rousse creates his photographies by modifying the space through painting and architecture and optical games. It’s only been a few years that the artist started showing the steps of his creation. In other words, sketches and on-site installations, prior to the final photography.

For this new exhibition, Georges Rousse will create an installation, which will remain during the show. From that intervention, the gallery will publish a new photography (edition of 30) showed along with his installation.

The gallery will also display some of his watercolours, part of Georges Rousse creation process. For him, the sheet of paper is the place of utopia, allowing his work to develop without any boundaries and keep trace of his investigations throughout spaces : ‘these drawings, projects, fictions, utopias are like my own memory, or at least like the memory of my work’. Indeed these watercolours mainly represents projects or variants of his latest works (Chapelle Saint-Charles, Avignon, June - October 2010, Château des Alpilles, Saint-Rémy de Provence, July - September 2010, Musée des beaux-arts, Nice, March 2010, not to mention Vilnius, Bastia, Paraty in Brasil…).

After each installation Georges Rousse takes a Polaroid and some of those precious works will be displayed at the gallery, as well as some photographies published by the gallery (inkjet prints, editions of 30).

At the same time the RX Gallery is showing from November 12th 2010 to January 15th 2011 recent photographies by Georges Rousse (6, avenue Delcassé - 75008 Paris - www.galerierx.com).

Short biography :

Georges Rousse was born in Paris in 1947, where he lives and works.

Coming from the ‘Free Figuration’ (a French art movement of the 1980’s) the artist used to confront human figures within spaces. Today his work mixes photography, drawing, painting, sculpture and architecture. He takes possession of abandonned and devastated places using optical games.

Georges Rousse’s work has been showed in the entire world.
