This event is held on BOTH Friday, October 12th, 2012 AND Saturday, October 13th at 8 PM.
"Marcus Roberts is the genius of the modern piano. He changed the way we played with each other," Wynton Marsalis once said, reflecting on the ways in which the pianist, who joined his orbit in 1986, helped to trigger a sea change in the way Marsalis viewed his own musical production. For the latest installment of his ongoing relationship with JALC, Roberts offers a new perspective on the unrecorded suite "Romance, Swing, and the Blues," which debuted at JALC in 1993 on the occasion of his thirtieth birthday, featuring drummer Jason Marsalis, bassist Rodney Jordan, trumpeters Marcus Printup, Alphonso Horne, and Etienne Charles, trombonist Ron Westray, clarinetist Joe Goldberg, and saxophonists Stephen Riley, Ricardo Pascal, and Tissa Khosla.
FREE PRE-CONCERT discussion nightly at 7pm, with Marcus Printup, Alphonso Horne, Etienne Charles, and hosted by JALC Educator Jono Gasparro.
