Kala Fellowship Artists' Talk: Maude Léonard-Contant & Jennie Ottinger
Thursday, July 21, 7pm
Kala’s Fellowship program includes an annual series of artist talks presented by current Fellows during their studio residencies.
The talk is free of charge and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
Maude Léonard Contant's mixed media works reveal that our relationship to the natural world is primarily a cultural construction at this point. Maude's presentation will include a discussion of her installation currently included in Residency Projects I at Kala Gallery. The installation titled I don’t know when it became a cult – and that bothers me finds its inspiration in the aesthetic of mortuary parlors. Maude is a resident of Montreal.
Jennie Ottinger's loosely painted portraits present a tragic/comic cast of characters. Seemingly casually painted with a quick hand, these nonetheless heartfelt studies depict individuals who seem to hover in a ghostly state of flux. She attended California College of the Arts and received her MFA from Mills College. Jennie will discuss the animation project she has been developing at Kala during her Fellowship residency. Her new work will be presented in Residency Projects II opening at Kala Gallery on September 8.
Kala Gallery is at 2990 San Pablo Ave., Berkeley, CA 94702
