The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), New York’s premiere French cultural center, will celebrate Valentine’s Day over fine chocolates and wine with acclaimed international chanteuse Yanna Avis. Singing from a romantic repertoire of songs by Cole Porter, Léo Ferré, Friedrich Hollaender, and Paul Misraki, Avis brings her celebrated seduction to an evening of classic chansons d’amour in French and English.
Avis’s smoky voice and sophisticated style have been compared to Marlene Dietrich, and have captivated audiences worldwide. At the invitation of maestro Gian Carlo Menotti, she became the first cabaret artist to perform at Italy’s legendary Spoleto Music Festival, and her elegance and panache have made her a must-see in New York’s most prestigious rooms, including Eighty Eight’s, The Russian Tea Room, Doubles at the Sherry-Netherland, Maxim’s, The Firebird, The Supper Club’s King Kong Room, Feinstein’s at the Regency, and the Jermyn Street Theatre in London.
