Alex Benedict began working through Kala Art Institute eight years ago to fully explore a process of juxtaposing digital photographic images with his poetry. The physical enjoyment of working with presses led to further study in intaglio, monotype, and other means of creating an interaction of concepts with a variety of media. His current project involves large scale printing on canvas of images which are a result of operations of formal geometry and probability, color, and perception. The process of generating and manipulating the images engages Alex’s knowledge of mathematics, computer science and digital photography.

Nancer Le Moins has been teaching art in the Bay Area for 20 years and is especially interested in community based and activist art. She has been an artist in residence at Kala for 10 years and works primarily as a printmaker and painter. Her work for the past few years has been motivated by environmental and social issues but remains solidly personal. Nancer will be showing slides from several recent series and discussing the fine line between getting a point across with grace and beauty and not being didactic.
