The Gallery at FIAF will feature a trio of leading women contemporary artists in a new gallery show, Senses and Essence. This site-specific installation, curated by Nawal Slaoui reflects on ideas of existence, the origin of life, sustainability, and gender, creating a starting point for conversation about women in modern Morocco. Amina Agueznay will present a women piece created in collaboration with twenty women needle workers; Safaa Erruas will create one of her distinctive installations, echoing Agueznay’s work; and Najia Mehadji will draw inspiration from the movements of the Sufi whirling dervishes to create black and white prints.
Amina Agueznay, Safaa Erruas, and Najia Mehadji will also be participating in the special lunchtime talk Women, Artists in Morocco alongside rapper Soultana and vocalist Françoise Atlan on May 2.
