Yvonne Rainer is a dancer, choreographer and filmmaker.  She helped start the Judson Dance Theater, and was at the forefront of the postmodern dance movement in the 1960's. She is known for stripping dance of frill and narrative.  The emphasis being on everyday, or pedestrian movement, in other words movement anyone could do.  Some of her most famous work includes "Trio A," a dance made up of task based movement, and her "No Manifesto," a written document in which she said no to style, to spectacle, to virtuosity, etc.  

In 1990, she received a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship.

She more recently choreographed "RoS Indexical," her reimagining of the Rite of Spring.
