Rebecca Solnit Overview

Rebecca Solnit is one of the most capaciously curious and insightful living writers, having explored subjects across a tremendous variety of fields.  What is perhaps most refreshing about her approach to her material is precisely the fearlessness with which she circumvents traditional methods of examination so as to arrive at novel angles and impressions on alternately widely examined topics and ones largely unspoken-of.  She seems unbound by expectations and academic "rules," and her deserved sense of entitlement – something, thankfully, she likely doesn't even consider: the breadth of subjects she has covered and the depth into which she explored each should have long since earned her rightful entry into any field, but it is her seeming disregard for the exclusive contours of these fields that has led to the kind of thought that makes her work most invigorating and gives her analyses their most vibrantly penetrating exigency – has illuminated a wider array of elements of the human condition than most ever manage to broach.
