Markus Lüpertz born 1941 in Reichenberg now Liberec, Czech Republic, is a German painter, Graphic and Sculptor. He was from 1988 to 2009 rector of the Duesseldorf Art Academy. In the 1960s, he worked primarily in Berlin, moving on to take a professorship in Karlsruhe in the 1970s, then to Duesseldorf. During his early career as a painter, he won the 1970 Prize from Villa Romana and 1971 the German Association of Critics Prize. As a writer he has been editing his own journal called Frau und Hund(woman and dog) of which two editions in other languages have appeared in Italien - signora e cane - and French - Femme et Chien.In the journal he published his own poetry and prose. Because of his often complacent public appearances, his egocentrc rhetoric and his extravagant lifestyle, the artist is know as the "Painter prince". He is planning 2010 a private art academy in Potsdam near Berlin. [show less]
