Born and raised in New York, John Bonafede first took his fine art to a serious level when he was accepted into New York Summer School for the Arts (NYSSA) at SUNY Fredonia while in high school. He then attended Syracuse University for painting and then graduated to the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. He studied painting for a semester in Barcelona as well as taking Tangkha painting classes in New York with master Tangkha painter Samten Dakpa at Tibet House. In his studies of Mandalas and print making, Bonafede discovered the new medium of chemography, in which he uses to make some of his unique streetprints. He also creates performance- driven video art, searching for new ways to make line, form, and composition by using the dimension of time, the body and other fleeting materials. Interests in themes of transience, systems theory, and Buddhism have led him into various conceptual forays in many mediums. Bonafede- performance artist, painter, video artist, printmaker, installation artist, writer, producer- constantly strives to add something new and positive into the imminent dialogue of contemporary art and humanities.
