Mary DiBiasio is a Midwest artist currently residing in Brooklyn, NY.. Mary has taken large influence from both Chicago, IL. and Milwaukee, WI., where she studied printmaking and participated in culture. Her unending interest in printmaking specifically focuses on the relationship between the plate and the print and on the elimination of what keeps them separate. By making her plates out of paper, she is able to recycle the print back into the plate without there being a material difference. This creates both an object that feeds itself and a metaphor for exponential growth. In Mary's photographic works, she explores the relationship between inside and outside. Internal and external spaces become blended and the concept of comfort is highlighted as a result. Usual occurrences become seemingly staged as she highlights the domestic circumstance. Working with the figure through photography has been an investigation of her alternate egos. Through self portraiture Mary discovers the many people she has been in her life so far and sometimes the people she would like to be in the future. Mary DiBiasio's uses her work as escape from real life and is therefore able to transcend the thresholds of the physical world by way of imaginative, wishful, and fantastical thought. [show less]
