Lorrie Moore is a short story and fiction writer. She graduated from St. Lawrence University in New York in 1978 and received an MFA from Cornell University in 1982. Moore published her first book of short stories, Self-Help, in 1985 and quickly became known for her cleverly candid approach to prose. Her first novel, Anagrams, appeared in 1986. Moore received a Rockefeller Foundation fellowship in 1989, a Guggenheim in 1991, and an O. Henry Award in 1998. She has taught at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, since 1984 and she has just finished her first book in over a decade, a novel titled A Gate at the Stairs. Her work also includes The Forgotten Helper (1987); Like Life (1990); Who Will Run the Frog Hospital? (1994); and Birds of America (1998). [show less]
