Born in 1958, Dries van Noten first gained fame in 1986 as a member of 'The Antwerp Six,' who took London Fashion Week by storm with their highly unique collections. Van Noten grew up in a family of tailors, and studied at the Antwerp Fashion Academy (graduating in 1980). He began his career as a menswear designer, but today produced women's collections as well. Van Noten's clothes are excentric, and are an exotic mix of color, pattern, and cultural infuluences. His silhouettes often consist of layers of garments; the wild textiles and cuts sometimes distort and change the look of the body. Dries van Noten has shops worldwide, and runs a very successful fashion business. In 2008, the designer was awarded the CFDA's International Award. [show less]
