Jun Takahashi's and his avant garde label, Undercover, are one of the most vibrant and exciting companies working in fashion today. In the early nineties, Takahashi ran a small yet hip boutique in Tokyo's trendy Harajuku neighborhood selling his signature tshirts and distressed denims. Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons saw his potential, and Takahashi was taken under the wing of the great designer. He founded his label in 1994 and, with Kawakubo's advice, began showing his seasonal collections in Paris. Undercover has developed a cult following, and Takahashi is now a huge fashion star in Japan (with 31 stores around the country). His ensembles are characterized by the curious juxtaposition of ladylike and punky styles. His work is a mish-mash of historic and cultural influences; they are demolished or deconstructed yet still utterly chic. [show less]
