Writer Rick Moody grew up in New York and the surrounding area. He studied at Brown and Columbia, briefly worked in publishing, and released his first novel in 1992. Moody's work mines smart, messed-up people's minds and also explores the literate culture of New York City and its suburbs. Moody's novels include his inaugural project 'Garden State' (1992), 'The Ice Storm' (1994), 'Purple America' (1997) and 'The Diviners' (2007). He has also published short story and novella collections--among them 'Demonology' (2002) and 'Right Livelihoods' (2007)--and the memoir 'Black Veil.' Moody won a Pushcart Press Editors' Book Award for 'Garden State' and has also received an O. Henry Award. [show less]
