Los Angeles writer Aimee Bender, known for her poignant portrayals of eccentricity, has published two short story collections and one novel. Her first collection, 'The Girl in the Flammable Skirt' (1998), received rave reviews and was a NY Times Notable Book of the Year. Her second book, a novel titled 'An Invisible Sign of My Own,' chronicled the strange of obsession of a grade-school mathematician. With 'Willful Creatures' (2005), Bender returned to short fiction, again receiving critical praise and a best book of the year nomination from The Believer. Bender has received two Pushcart Prizes and has published stories in Granta, GQ, Harper's, Tin House, McSweeney's, and The Paris Review, among other publications. A graduate of University of California Irvine's MFA program, Bender teaches creative writing at University of Southern California. [show less]
