John Wray, an American novelist, was born in Washington, DC, and raised in Buffalo, New York. Wray's first novel, 'The Right Hand of Sleep' (2001), traces the disillusioned journey of an Austrain World War Won deserter and was awarded a Whiting Writers' Award. Wray's second novel 'Canaan’s Tongue', based on a legend about 19th century minister and slave runner John Murrell, was published in 2005 and earned him a place on Granta's 2007 Best of Young American Novelists list. Most recently, Wray has written 'Lowboy', a psychological novel about a schizophrenic off his medication and riding the Subway. Wray drafted much of the novel while riding the subway himself, and his method writing has been a cause for fascination among literary journalists and critics. [show less]
