What is up with Mr. Gaiman? The man has so many wonderful talents, it’s just not fair…I wish there were more authors that shared the inventive and intelligent style, wit, and fertile creative imagination that Neil has. His literary talents have allowed him to become one of the most prolific and best-selling authors living today. His unique literary take includes works of prose, poetry, comics, song lyrics, journalism and film.
He was born in Portchester, England, 10th November 1960, but now calls the US (Minnesota, specifically), home. His works encompass literary tastes that include fantasy, noir, horror, children’s and adult’s fiction and he is the recipient of various awards including the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy, Locus and Bram Stoker awards.
Where to start? Not only is he the critically acclaimed author of the novels American Gods, Neverwhere, and Coraline, but he has also written the script (with Roger Avery) for Robert Zemeckis’ Beowulf, as well as Mirrormask (directed by Dave McKean).
With his friend Dave McKean (also critically-acclaimed as a visual artist and illustrator), he has written three graphic novels including Violent Cases, Signal to Noise and The Tragical Comedy or Comical Tragedy of Mr. Punch. His best-known work for the genre, however, is the cult-noir graphic novel, Sandman which won nine Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, including the award for best writer four times, and three Harvey Awards.
Normal Mailer has described it as: "Along with all else, Sandman is a comic strip for intellectuals, and I say it's about time."
