Gareth Pugh is one of the more interesting and unique designers to emerge from London in the last five years. Style.com describes Pugh as the "latest addition to a long tradition of fashion-as-performance-art that stretches back through Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, and Vivienne Westwood to the eighties club culture of Leigh Bowery." Pugh studied fashion design at the prestigious Central Saint Martin's before debuting at London Fashion Week in 2006. He has always recieved critical praise for his imaginative and subversive fashions, yet Pugh has struggled throughout his brief career to stay afloat and sell garments. He does have a celebrity following, and pop stars Kylie Minogue, Lady Gaga and Roisin Murphy have worn his designs for performances. More of an artist than a designer, Pugh work is characterized by inflatable garments, geometric shapes, the colors black and white, and materials such as plastics and PVC. [show less]
