[more]Crime writer and novelist Elmore Leonard graduated from University of Detroit with a degree in English and Philosophy in 1950. He began his career in the '50s, writing pulp westerns and short fiction.
Many of his works have been adapted to the big screen. His 1951 story 3:10 to Yuma inspired the 1957 film and the 2007 remake; The Big Bounce, which Leonard wrote in 1969, became a film the same year and was remade in 2004; Leonard's Get Shorty became a film in 1995; and Rum Punch was the inspiration for Quentin Tarantino's 1997 thriller Jackie Brown.
