Darlings are a four-piece band from New York. The current climate of popular music criticism demands that influences be compactly delineated and musical kinfolk named, and Darlings are no strangers to this treatment: their music has drawn comparisons to Teenage Fanclub and My Bloody Valentine; their vocal harmonies are said to recall the Beach Boys, their sudden and unexpected rhythmic and vocal divigations the Pixies. And there is truth to these claims. But the tightness of their compositions and the wit of their lyrics – which are alternately, and often at once, ramshackle and acute, diffident and nostalgic – mark them as something new and fun, the kind of band you can fall in love with.
