Bebe Miller formed the Bebe Miller Company in 1985. She has been making dances for over 25 years. She was awarded a Bessie award for Landing/Place (2005). Her work lends itself to investigating and defining a phsyical language for the human condition. She has used text and film in her work, and in 1999, collaborated with choreographer Ralph Lemon and filmmaker Isaac Julien, to create the award-winning film, Three. Miller collaborates frequently with musicians, filmmakers and her dancers. She became a Full Professor at The Ohio State University (from where she holds her MA) in 2000. Her most recent piece, Necessary Beauty, was performed in NYC at Dance Theater Workshop in November of 2008. Miller's work has been performed internationally in Europe, Asia and the African continent. She has been honored with four "Bessie" (New York Dance and Performance) Awards, a John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, an American Choreographers Award and Artist's Fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Ohio Arts Council. She currently serves on the boards of Dance Theater Workshop, Danspace Project and Bearnstow, and is a member of the International Artists Advisory Board of the Wexner Center for the Arts. [show less]
