The first monograph published in English on the work of the celebrated and influential French graphic artist Robert Massin (b.1925), one of the key exponents of the development of graphic design since WWII. Massin is a book sculptor, graphic designer and writer, who has worked with many famous authors and playwrights, including Eugène Ionesco, Blaise Cendrars and Raymond Queneau, and has been art director for the pre-eminent French publisher Gallimard for twenty years. The book charts Massin’s wide-ranging career with detailed discussion of some of his most inventive and exciting projects, including the award-winning The Bald Prima Donna (1964) and Letter and Image (1970). Organised in six sections, including one chapter showing for the first time Massin’s studio in his country house – a fantastic cabinet of curiosity which mirrors Massin’s rich imagination.
