[more]I was brought up in England and in the Languedoc region of France, where much of my family comes from.
My earliest encounter with Art was with Goya's Caprichos.
I became convinced of the status of photography as an art after having visited an exhibition of the work of Mary Ellen Mark and seeing the work of Sally Mann. In 1993 I started a serious study of the work of such Photographers as Atget, Josef Sudek, Cartier-Bresson and Bill Brandt.
Six months later I bought my first camera. Soon after this I decided to abandon my career as a primary teacher to concentrate fully on photography.
My work is also inspired by my other passions for music, especially modern and contemporary classical music, and poetry.
I recently moved from England to France in order to help my mother look after my father, who is suffering from a chronic illness.
I currently teach English part-time at a French art school.
