Description: Conceived by Andy Lavender and Jo Parker, created and presented by Lightwork The Good Actor is about acting, performing, doing and being. The project has been developed as a theatre piece, a series of online videos and, here, an installation that throws a spotlight as never before on the actor. Through a series of stations, the spectator encounters the stuff of acting – the preparation, the physical and vocal work, the moments of quiet focus prior to the cue, and the actor onstage in mid-performance. This compelling central turn is re-encountered in a live mashup in a multimedia viewing room, where performance and spectatorship, theatre and media, witness and experience are fused.
About the company
Founded in 1999, Lightwork makes experimental theatre and performance. Our projects are devised by a range of artists, led by Artistic Director Andy Lavender and including performers, designers, writers and technicians. Previous productions include Sarajevo Story (an ‘impressive devised multimedia piece’, Time Out), Here’s What I Did with My Body One Day (‘smart, sensitive and extremely enjoyable’, The Times), and MyLife, a testimony performance with Lewisham Youth Theatre. Lightwork develops work through several stages, as an integral part of a creative process designed to maximize a variety of inputs and feedback. We currently have two projects in development: The Tempest (produced in a workshop production at the International Shakespeare Festival, Gdansk, in association with Parrabbola), and The Good Actor.
