decorative / theme
Once upon a time, there was a branch of philosophy called aesthetics. Beauty, it was believed, is an end in and of itself. Objects and attributes need not necessarily instruct, challenge, or remake the viewer, but may fulfill their purposes by simply existing. Often dismissed as trivial or depthless, the decorative is a thing devoted to delight and to delectation. Let the profundity rest, and revel on the glittering surface.
Themes represent basic categories of thought, emotion, or value. While our assignment of themes may at times seem arbitrary or whimsical, they serve to link together artists and movements along non- hierarchial pathways. Follow the themes to look for new disciplines that share qualities with those you already like, or to open up new worlds of Art and Culture.
