self-reflection / theme

Narcissus, who fell in love with his own image as reflected in a still pool, exemplifies the seductive dangers of introversion and the contemplation of one's own endlessly fascinating self. Only in the case of the wittiest, most penetrating, and mercilessly honest observers may the fruits of such perverse labor transcend a third party's natural disgust for the matter at hand.

Themes represent basic categories of thought, emotion, or value. While our assignment of themes may at times seem arbitrary or whimsical, they serve to link together artists and movements along non- hierarchial pathways. Follow the themes to look for new disciplines that share qualities with those you already like, or to open up new worlds of Art and Culture.
