event / theme
The more you think about it, the more impossible it seems to break down the tumult and chaos of the world into discrete segments of time and space: this is the endless and ultimately hopeless (but nonetheless seductive) project of creating order. The event, as such, is a construct that encapsulates a moment, crystallizing the movements of people and particles, actions and emotions. It makes a microscope of otherwise common perception. Significance is heightened; agency is made inevitable. Event makes you say
"oh" -- and then remakes you. Water becomes vapor, a friend becomes a lover, a man becomes a father: the point at which something happens, the event is always transformative.
Themes represent basic categories of thought, emotion, or value. While our assignment of themes may at times seem arbitrary or whimsical, they serve to link together artists and movements along non- hierarchial pathways. Follow the themes to look for new disciplines that share qualities with those you already like, or to open up new worlds of Art and Culture.
