I recently read, 'The Accidental Connoisseur' by Lawerence Osborne, which is a great read - in the book Osborne introduces us to the word, terroir, which has to do with place and wine. In his journeys to Napa, France and Italy he is interested in the particular of place. What in a wine brought up in the palette reflects place; soil, minerality, the character of the grape, the wind and stones, the barrel - what is place he asks as new technical processes can readily alter the characteristics of wine and place becomes a construct.
