Last week I recieved an amusing, pun-filled email inviting me to a meeting of the Corduroy Appreciation Club, on Wednesday, 11 11, or the date that most resembles corduroy. Being a longtime enthusiast of this comforting fabric, I was intrigued. As winter draws ever nearer, it is more important than ever to pay tribute to the textiles that shield us from an icy doom, and corduroy does so more stylishly than your run-of-the-mill fleece. The meeting will feature speeches, bands, thematic refreshments, awards, and corduroy goods available for purchase. It costs $11.11 (an appropriately corduroy-like price) but eccentricity of this magnitude is priceless.
